Why participate?
This program will support participants in becoming more adept with coaching skillsets and more importantly employing coaching mindsets for effectiveness across the breadth of their “roles” – leader, teacher, mentor, partner, human. This is not about training coaches but rather building coaching capacity in individuals to grow the adaptability needed in increasingly complex systems. This program goes beyond traditional transactional approaches to activate next-level practices and perspectives – transforming self, team, organization – shaping cultures that bring forth more thriving and less striving.
Participants Can Expect
- Personal growth – including increased self-awareness, enhanced sense of personal agency and capability, and increased potential for contributing positively to their organizational effectiveness through use of coaching mindset and skills.
- Improved team effectiveness – improved trust, clearer expectation setting, healthy approaches to conflict, enhanced communication skills, and overall increases in engagement and accountability.
- Healthier organizational culture – a coaching approach to leadership, teaching, mentorship not only changes the interaction dynamics among team members in a healthcare environment, but also extends to improved learning environment, patient experiences and improved care for the communities served.

Program Highlights
In-person Kick-off Session: October 18, 2024 (in-person, 6-hour session preceding the American College of Surgeons in San Francisco)
- Being in “Coaching Zone”: Benefits, barriers and how to be there more often
- Frameworks for remembering and using coaching skillsets
- Activities for challenging mental models toward growing a coaching mindset
- Significant group interaction, demonstrations of coaching conversations, 1:1 practice of coaching conversations
Virtual Group Sessions: November 12, 2024: 6-7:30pm EST, December 11, 2024: 6-7:30pm EST, January 16, 2025: 6-7:30pm EST
- Deep dives on key components of coaching framework’s skill sets and mindsets
- Discussion of barriers to successful use of coaching and opportunities to shift
- Breakout practice coaching conversations and real-time debriefs with coaches for growth and improvement
In-Person Closing Session: February 9, 2025 (in-person, 6-hour session preceding the Academic Surgical Congress in Las Vegas)
- The Power and Potential of Coaching in Complexity: why and how coaching provides a “new take” for new challenges
- Exploration of mindtraps in complexity and demonstration and use of advanced tools for working effectively in different environments
- Discussions and brainstorming on ways to sustain learnings, have more coaching conversations in our roles and organizations and create momentum toward the value of coaching cultures
Individual 1:1 Coaching (begins in January and continues through September)
- Six sessions with your own coach
- Get support for being more “coach-like” in your interactions as a leader, teacher, mentor
- Experience the benefits of strong coaching conversations yourself
- Debrief of self assessment on behavioral style (and it impact on your approach to coaching conversations)
