AAS SUS Executive Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Course: A Framework for Creating a Diverse Surgical Workforce

The AAS and SUS are very pleased to announce the AAS SUS Executive Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Course.

The course is intended for Program Directors, Program Coordinators, Division Chiefs, and Chairs of Surgery. It aims to educate surgical academic leaders in strategies, programs and policies that encourage fair and equal representation and participation of diverse groups of people in the surgical workforce.

The course features keynote speakers Marc Nivet, EdD, MBA, Executive Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, UT Southwestern and William McDade, MD, PhD, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Following the keynote lectures, participants will join the following breakout rooms, led by renowned academic surgical leaders:

  • Faculty and Resident Recruitment, led by Justin Dimick, MD and Tania Arora, MD
  • Pay Equity Strategies, led by Sandra Wong, MD and Steve Schwaitzberg, MD
  • Being an Upstander / Dealing with Microaggressions / Allyship, led by Darla Thompson, PhD and Callisia Clarke, MD
  • Faculty and Resident Retention, led by Julie Ann Sosa, MD and Charlie Friel, MD
