Allyship Bloom

by Alisa Pugacheva, 4th yr Medical Student, Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University

Bloom focuses on that often fleeting moment when you can be your true self with the people you care for and in turn, you find that they can do the same. Being honest and vulnerable can be terrifying for all of us, but I have often found that it’s resulted in the greatest moments of healing, comfort, and growth.

    Surgical Allyship

by Chandler Hinson, 3rd yr Medical Student, Frederick P Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama

Being a member of the LBGTQIA+ community, Chandler finds allyship within the OR extremely important, especially for medical students who are wanting to pursue surgical specialties. During these times of training and growth, it is incredibly important that medical students feel comfortable being able to be themselves within the OR and able to find mentors that support them.

      The Struggle is Real

by Ken Woodside, MD, Transplant Surgeon, University of Michigan

This photograph, entitled “The Struggle is Real.” The candid photo could also have been named after the internet meme that contains, “Share this picture if…,” and “… you really love cats.”

        Al Shifa

        Anonymous

Greatly personally affected by the Palestinian humanitarian crisis produced by the longstanding Israeli occupation and the destruction of the healthcare infrastructure, I made this piece while at a family art night in memory of all those Palestinians, alive and dead, who are not able to sit with their families in safety and creativity.
The crushed glass represents all of the destruction that has been promulgated against the Palestinians people. The boat is in the colors of the Palestinian flag, attempting to flee the destruction. The gold waves are the golden souls that have carried the Palestinian cause. The gray waters are the choppy and hostile global context that has ignored and opposed them for decades. The far left of the image exhibits the olive tree burning as the country is burning. The tree is on a colorful land representing the fertility and resource-rich land of Palestine. The sun is also a burning flower, bearing down on the scene. The seagulls in the top right symbolize such a severity of the conditions that even the last of nature (the foreign aid workers) have departed. And despite this, the sky is blue and clear for there will always be hope for this resilient people.
