I'm a surgical oncologist at the University of Pennsylvania and have been part of the AAS since residency.  Over the years, the society has provided me with invaluable opportunities that have had a positive impact on both my career and research endeavors.  I have seen firsthand how the AAS provides a platform that fosters the academic growth of their members.   That said, preserving the mission of the society to ensure that future surgeons are given the same opportunities I benefited from is extremely important to me.  As such, I hope to be given the chance to serve on either the education or finance committee.
