TEMPLE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
Basic Science and Translational Research is the cornerstone of Surgery and by extension our Association of Academic Surgeons in its mission of education, research and service. Excellence in all three areas is contingent upon a strong alliance between the surgeons and it’s candidate members like residents and medical students. Critical to achieving this is fostering mentorship, collaboration and expertise in diverse surgical specialties and I believe that it behooves all faculty to invest strongly in this process. In the last five years, I have obtained tremendous insights from running the summer research program for medical students at Temple as well as co-chairing the Grants Review Committee of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. It would be an honor to be a part of this process at AAS.
