This travel award aims to increase women and minority participation in academic surgery. The AAS Fall Courses will provide pearls of wisdom and discuss advances in research methods, academic career advancement, grant writing, as well as incorporate interactive sessions where participants can discuss their ideas with academic surgical leaders and network with colleagues.
Ten (10) travel awards are funded by the AAS Foundation, and are awarded to residents, fellows, or faculty-level attendees who are female and/or from underrepresented minorities. Applicants submit an essay, along with a letter of support (in PDF format) from their chair, program director, or dean of the medical school (or equivalent). The essay should include a general overview of their academic careers and research history, and include reasons why the applicant would benefit from attending the Fall Courses and what he or she hopes to gain from the experience there.
- $1,000 to be used for travel, hotel accommodations, and registration for the 2019 Fall Courses being held October 26, 2019 in San Francisco, CA.
- Complimentary AAS membership for one year
