AAS Ethics Committee Online Auction – Artist Scarlett Hao

August 8, 2022 by Scarlett Hao, MD

From the AAS Ethics Committee’s 2021 Artwork and Essay Contest, five artists donated their work to our Online Auction, raising funds for the Henri Ford Junior Faculty Research Award. This week we showcase the artists and their work.

About the Art: Angel of Death – I was pregnant during the COVID pandemic and did not feel like a hero, because I had conflicting priorities, between protecting myself, my unborn child, and treating my patients. My ethical duties seem divided. This is the feeling I had as I created this piece.

About the Artist: Scarlett Hao, East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine. Dr. Hao is a fourth-year general surgery resident at East Carolina University, interested in surgical oncology and pursuing a career in academic surgery. Her academic interests lie in healthcare disparities, physician and trainee wellness, and education.

Auction closes Monday, August 26, 2022
