As we prepare for ASC 2022, we recently realized that we neglected to celebrate our winners from the 2021 Academic Surgical Congress:
Hope Elizabeth Werenski – Her manuscript, “Outcomes Following Cholecystectomy on a Service Designed to Maximize Chief Resident Entrustment” received the 2021 award for Best AAS Overall Manuscript Submission by an AAS Member. Hope is a third year medical student at Wake Forest School of Medicine pursuing a career in general surgery. She received her Bachelor of Science in biology at Wake Forest University and is dedicated to both surgical and medical education research.
Christopher De Boer, MD MS – His manuscript, “Utility of Wearable Sensors to Assess Post-operative Recovery in Pediatric Appendectomy Patients” received the 2021 award for Best AAS Overall Manuscript Submission by an AAS Resident or Fellow. Christopher is a PGY4 research resident in General Surgery at UCSF-East Bay. He is currently completing a two-year Pediatric Surgery Research Fellowship at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Northwestern University under the mentorship of Dr. Fizan Abdullah, MD, PhD.
