2021 “Get Off Your AAS!” Fitness Challenge

Join surgeons from the institutions below who have already signed up for the “Get Off Your AAS!” Fitness Challenge, January 29 – February 2, 2021.  Sign-up by January 25, 2021 as an individual or a team of five surgeons.  You’ll be helping to raise money for academic research while competing on a team and making new friends! Or simply sponsor a participant to show your support.

Participating Institutions as of January 15, 2021:
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
Fox Chase Cancer Center
Keck Medicine of USC
Louisiana State University Children’s Hospital New Orleans
Massachusetts General Hospital
McGovern Medical School
Medical College of Wisconsin
University of Arizona Tucson
University of Michigan
University of Rochester Golisano Children’s Hospital
University of Texas Health San Antonio
Valley Children’s Hospital/UC San Francisco-Fresno
Vanderbilt University Medical Center
Virginia Commonwealth University

Sign up as an individual or as a team of five from a single institution.  Teams of five must be signed up all together by one person. The individuals and teams will be grouped with additional participants to form larger teams encompassing multiple institutions. What a great way to meet new colleagues!

The following are welcome to participate:
-AAS Members
-Non AAS Members
-Medical Students
-Friends

Participants can cycle (on a stationary or road bike) or run (on a treadmill or outdoors) with the goal for each team to log the most miles. The miles for the runners will be multiplied by three so they are roughly equivalent to the cyclists’ miles.

The winning team and the top individual fundraiser will be acknowledged by the AAS President during the Virtual ASC Meeting.

For residents (members and non-members), the minimum donation is $50 per person ($250 if signing up as a team of five).

Attending physicians (members and non-members) can join the fun with a minimum donation of $100 per person ($500 if signing up as a team of five).

Each participant will receive an email by January 27, 2021 with their teammates’ names and email addresses as well as a link to an online form for logging their daily miles.

We will post updates on the AAS and AASF websites and Twitter using the hashtag #GetOffYourAAS.

Every dollar raised will benefit the AAS Foundation and support academic research!
