Surgeon-scientists have shaped the face of surgical care. Because war is often the crucible for necessary medical innovation and progression, it is not surprising that military surgeon-scientists have left an indelible imprint on modern surgical practice. As I start the transition to my first year as an academic attending surgeon, I feel a sense of duty to carry on the time-honored military tradition of advancing military surgical care. With that in mind, I can think of no greater honor to join the AAS military committee in order to continue their tradition of collaboration and advancement of important military surgical research. If elected to the committee, I would relish any opportunity to strengthen the academic ties regarding military outcomes research, military-civilian partnerships, and sustainable quality improvement metrics. I thank you for the consideration of your vote.
