Education Nominations New

I am a surgical resident at the Brigham and a postdoctoral fellow in the Laboratory for Surgical and Metabolic Research. My deep passion lies in studying gastrointestial physiology and cancer metabolism to discover opportunities for novel cancer therapeutics. My journey toward becoming an independent surgical investigator has been profoundly impacted by the mentorship of several outstanding surgeon-scientists. Their guidance has not only fueled my commitment to becoming an academic GI surgeon but has also underscored the importance of advancing the next generation of surgeon-scientists.

Accordingly, I am particularly drawn to Basic and Translational Research and Education Committees because of their pivotal roles in providing young investigators with the same mentorship and opportunities that have guided my own career. The work these committees have already accomplished in supporting educational and translational research initiatives ranging from the Fundamentals of Surgical Research Course to the AAS Research Fellowship is a testament to the leadership within this organization. I am eager to contribute to these ongoing efforts by helping to develop programs that directly address challenges faced by trainees and early-career investigators, such as securing funding and optimizing lab years, while fostering collaboration and community.

Additionally, the opportunity to engage with and learn from accomplished leaders within these communities will be invaluable for refining my own research and educational strategies. Through actively participating in these committees, I hope to help further their mission of driving innovation and excellence in academic surgery, while also growing as a scientist and educator within this vibrant community.
