General Surgery

I am an assistant professor of surgery in the divisions of trauma, acute care, and critical care surgery at University of California, Los Angeles. My academic practice centers around collaborations with surgical partners in LMIC to expand surgical and trauma capacity globally. Throughout my training and early career, I have grown enormously from the academic opportunities, mentorship, and collaboration facilitated by participation in AAS. The annual ASC meeting has provided a supportive and constructive platform for myself (and now my African and US-based trainees) to disseminate our work. The 2016 AAS/AASF Global Surgery Research fellowship allowed me to foster research that continues to propel my progress as an independent investigator.  Prior collaboration and mentorship from the AAS Global Affairs committee has improved and expanded the scope of prior research projects and strengthened my manuscripts.  I have been honored to serve as a moderator and speed mentor at the AAS, but would love the opportunity to give back to the AAS  in a more sustained, committed role.
