Education Nominations New

Rebecca Tang

Candidate Member

Massachusetts General Hospital

General Surgery

I am a General Surgery resident and Surgical Education Research Fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital interested in serving on the Education Committee. My research in surgical education focuses on identifying and mitigating the challenges faced by surgical trainees who have small hand size, are left-handed, and are introverted. By doing so, I hope to reduce friction for trainees who may sometimes feel they do not belong in the world of surgery, as well as provide practical additions to the surgical educator’s toolbox.

I am eager to join the AAS Education Committee because I want to help continue the work of promoting surgical education research within the academic surgical community. In particular, I hope to work on developing mentorship opportunities for surgeons with small hand size, left-handed dominance, and introverted leadership styles. The committee’s focus on developing and improving programming for mentorship, education, and education research is critical for supporting trainees and their educators and mentors in our community, and I hope to contribute to its efforts as a Candidate Member.
