Active Member

UCLA

General Surgery, Surgical Oncology

I am an Associate Professor of Surgery and dedicated Active member of AAS, applying to serve on the Education Committee for AAS. Surgical education and education research are what brought me back to academic medicine and to the AAS in 2023 after 10 years in a community practice.  My interest in this committee specifically is to continue promoting and developing education-related content for our annual meeting and courses, to foster mentorship within our education community, and to advance surgical education research. In my service on the Publications Committee for AAS, I also took a special interest in reviewing education-related manuscripts for JSR.

Currently at UCLA, I serve as the Capstone Co-Chair for our fourth year medical students, I teach an ultrasound course using a cadaver model quarterly to our general surgery residents, and I am Chair of our CME course in breast ultrasound, intraoperative localization, and oncoplastics.  Moreover, my educational research studies have led to presentations by our trainees at ASC, ASBrS, and ACS as well as publications in JSR, ASO, and JACS. In additional surgical societies, I serve on a Mentorship Committee, an Imaging Certification Review Committee, Annual Scientific Committee, and Oncoplastics Certification Task Force.  All my service has been focused on education, research, certification and mentorship.

I believe I am well-qualified and suited for service to our Education Committee and I believe this committee will help broaden my understanding of surgical education for the next generation.  Thank you for considering me.
