Pediatric Surgery

In the early years of my career, I described myself as a full-time hard working pediatric surgery mother. 1 year into my daughter's life and I finally decided to go to the doctor myself and emerged with several chronic medical diagnoses that ultimately resulted in 3 months of short term disability and FMLA. I wasn't sure I would/could return to medicine. I was able to return but now my identity is part-time pediatric surgeon mother on long term disability. I joined the American Pediatric Surgical Association DEI committee two years ago to learn more about disability from the DEI perspective and to engage more in inclusivity in all aspects of my life. I am the Vice Chair of that committee for the next two years and will serve as Chair thereafter. I would love to be on the AAS DEI Committee to be able to share what we are doing in pediatric surgery and to see what is being done in the DEI space in the adult world. Thank you for your consideration.
