DEI Nominations

Return to Nominations List

Jackson Baril, Candidate Member

Headshot (optional)
Specialty

General Surgery

Current Institution

Indiana University

Statement

I am a general surgery resident and AAS Candidate Member seeking additional involvement in this invaluable organization. I currently serve on the resident DEI committee at Indiana University, and I have experience founding and leading LGBTQ+ professional organizations in my undergrad, medical school, and business school years. The DEI and Technology and Communications committees would be excellent opportunities to serve the AAS mission to promote academic surgery to all types of surgeons. I believe that the wider the tent, the stronger the organization becomes. While attending the AAS fall courses this year, I enjoyed networking with surgeons across institutions and backgrounds. The social media presence of AAS presents opportunities for members to connect and continue networking in conjunction with formal recruitment and engagement initiatives from the DEI committee. It would be an honor to serve on either committee for the AAS.

Thank you for your consideration!
