Alexandra Gustafson, Candidate Member

Headshot (optional)
Specialty

General Surgery

Current Institution

National Cancer Institute

Statement

I have completed two years of general surgery residency at Metropolitan Hospital Center in New York City where most patients treated are Hispanic, non-English speaking, and underinsured. I am currently in my second year as a research fellow at the National Cancer Institute. I’m passionate about increasing diversity in clinical trials, and I believe a key part of this is having leadership who are just as diverse as the population they serve.  As the only person in my family to become a doctor, I bring a unique perspective in what it means to care for patients from all backgrounds.
