Representation matters. This is a phrase that has been repeated throughout the years but has never been more important. As the membership of the AAS grows and diversifies, bringing the appropriate voices to the table and empowering them to speak and implement changes will be integral to the growth of the organization. I have worked on numerous DEI initiatives at my home institution and believe I could contribute to fostering discussions and implementing initiatives focused on inclusion and equity within the AAS and surgery as a whole.
