Clinical and Health Services Research Nominations New

My long-term career goal is to develop into a surgeon-scientist with a clinical practice in hepatobiliary surgical oncology and a research program focused on advancing health equity in cancer care through systems-level intervention design. For my academic development time in residency, I plan to study inequities in access to and allocation of care along the transplant-cancer care continuum with a particular focus on the impact of social determinants of health on care of hepatocellular carcinoma. My academic pursuits tie in neatly with my previous experiences in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work, such as being c0-president of DukeMed for Social Justice and Students for a National Health Program, as well as being advocacy chair of the Duke Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association and an appointed member of the Duke School of Medicine DEI Committee. I believe I offer a grounded and human-centered perspective to my endeavors in surgery and academia. I am firmly committed to diversifying the field of surgery, particularly that of surgical oncology, and I hope that my involvement in this AAS committee can help me to actualize this vision. I hope that, as a committee, we can address issues pertaining to the pipeline into surgical training- as well as key aspects of retention, recruitment, and promotion of diverse and historically minoritized populations in the surgical space.
