Candidate Member

Temple University Hospital / Fox Chase Cancer Center

General Surgery

I am a first-generation college graduate from rural Indiana who is currently completing a two-year research fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center in hopes to become a surgical oncologist. Being an underrepresented voice in surgery has demanded not only work ethic, but patience and confidence. Eventually, I want to function as a mentor for adolescents and young adults who came from a similar background as myself. I believe it only takes one person -- or one opportunity -- to change the trajectory of your entire life. Given my goals to explore academic surgery, I believe serving as a committee member within AAS would be an opportunity to build professional relationships and continue to hone my leadership skills. I currently serve my institution through the residency program evaluation committee, GME subcommittees, and a hospital-wide committee addressing topics including post-operative complications and operational changes to reduce their incidence. In addition, I also have 4 years of experience in medical educational reform through committee. I greatly enjoy a multidisciplinary team that brings unique ideas to discussion and is united by a common goal. I hope to join the ranks of your prestigious organization and continue the work you have set forth.
