Basic and Translational Science Nominations New

Candidate Member

University of Cincinnati

General Surgery

I am a PGY-4 general surgery resident at the University of Cincinnati currently in my second year of basic science research in trauma/critical care under Dr. Timothy Pritts. I study the inflammatory response to blood transfusions and blood storage conditions. During my research time, I have studied the red cell storage lesion and its effect on lung injury and inflammation. My research also investigates the inflammatory response to trauma through production of neutrophil extracellular traps and their consequences in polytrauma.

I attended my first AAS fall courses last year and gained valuable skills and information to help my future academic surgical career. Particularly, the basic science presentations sparked new ideas for my own research that I was able to bring back to my lab. I am committed to a future career in basic science, and I want to help inspire other surgical trainees to also explore a surgeon-scientist career. I attended many of the basic science sessions at the ASC in 2024 and want to be a part of the committee to help plan those talks.

Thank you for considering my self-nomination for the basic and translational research committee and education committee. I believe that AAS has great mentorship programs already established and I am interested in continuing to help support those programs and seek opportunities for new programs. I look forward to hearing your response and continuing my involvement in AAS.
