Nandita Mahajan

Candidate Member

Montefiore Medical Center

General Surgery

I am a non-traditional international graduate and a 4th year general surgery resident at Montefiore Medical Center. I am passionate about lung physiology, and lung and esophageal cancer research. I have spent dedicated research years focusing on clinical and patient reported outcomes research and integrated the same into my residency.

My medical education spans across three different countries, India, United Status and Antigua giving me the opportunity serve patient from different cultural backgrounds. I have served as the youngest member on the Governor's Advisory Council for American College of Physicians, India Chapter. I currently serve as an invited member of Sigma Xi Research Honor Society, Montefiore Einstein's Access for Visible and Invisible Disabilities and Women Empowerment Business Resource Groups and Quality Improvement Groups. I have also ran consult boot camp for junior residents and actively participate in medical student and resident education.

Coming from a non-medical family background, I value patient centered care. I do my part for patient education using my artsy skills of sketching and painting as a medium. I continue to work on patient reported outcomes research focused on oncologic research.

In my humble opinion, my academic and research background combined with varied cultural experience makes be a worthy candidate to serve on AAS's academic advancement, clinical research, education, global affairs and or diversity, equity, inclusion committee. This is my first year of AAS membership and I look forward serving and advancing the mission of AAS committees.
