Call for Self-Nominations for the AAS Task Force on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The Association for Academic Surgery (AAS) is requesting self-nominations for a new task force on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Under the leadership of Dr. Callisia Clarke, who has agreed to be the chair, the task force will address all issues surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion within the AAS. It will meet via conference call several times throughout the year, as well as an in-person meeting at the Academic Surgical Congress. We are especially looking for members who are passionate about this issue and can dedicate the time and energy to this task force.

Description:

The following are some duties of the task force:

  • Review the strategic initiatives from the strategic plan and develop an action plan to address those initiatives
  • Discuss and propose new ideas to increase diversity, equity and inclusion within the AAS

Requirements:

This position is available to members of the AAS who meet the following requirements:

  • The member can either be Active, Active International or Active Military
  • Has a good understanding of the AAS and its mission

Submission of Self-Nominations:

Members who wish to self-nominate for this position should fill out the form at the bottom of this page. The deadline for RECEIPT of applications is 11:59 pm PST on October 23, 2019. Letters should not exceed ½ page in length.

Once we have all the self nominations, we will choose 6-8 people to serve on this task force. Please email Christina at christina@aasurg.org should you have further questions.
