As a health services researcher, I am deeply committed to ensuring that we foster the development of medical students, residents, and faculty who are interested in this field. I believe that the Association of Academic Surgeons provides the ideal venue in which to do this as we have researchers at all stages of their careers who can provide valuable insight into the particular challenges faced in this field. If I were elected to this committee, a first goal of mine would be to perform an assessment among current AAS members to understand if there are additional ways that the society could help them advance their careers in clinical or health services research beyond what is currently offered.
