Congratulations to the New Associate Editors for the Journal of Surgical Research (JSR)!

We are pleased to announce that Uma Sachdeva, MD, PhD, has been selected to serve as the new Associate Editor for the Thoracic Surgery Section of Journal of Surgical Research (JSR).

Uma Sachdeva, MD, PhD

Dr. Sachdeva is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and an Assistant in Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Her academic interests include the molecular pathogenesis of esophageal cancer and the use of technology to enhance postoperative care after esophagectomy. Her work has been funded by the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute, the Thoracic Surgery Foundation, the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, and Women in Thoracic Surgery. In the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Dr. Sachdeva serves on the Workforce on New Technology. She is a member of the Association for Academic Surgery and currently serves on the JSR Editorial Board. She has also served as an Editorial Intern for the Journal of Clinical Investigation and a Guest Associate Editor for Annals of Esophagus.

Dr. Sachdeva is taking over the Thoracic Surgery section from Dr. Malcolm Brock, who has served as Associate Editor since 2014. We are greatly indebted to Dr. Brock for his decade of dedicated service to JSR.

 

We are also pleased to announce that Oliver Eng, MD, and Ryan Thomas, MD, have been selected to serve as the new Associate Editors for the Gastrointestinal Surgery Section of Journal of Surgical Research (JSR). 

Oliver Eng MD

Dr. Eng is an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of California, Irvine. He is a fellow of the Society of Surgical Oncology. His academic interests include the molecular and immunologic characteristics of peritoneal tumors as well as innovative therapies for metastatic disease. His research funding has included awards from the National Institutes of Health and the Appendix Cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Research Foundation. Dr. Eng is a member of the Research Committee of the Society of Surgery of the Alimentary Track, a member of the Training Committee of the Society of Surgical Oncology, and Director of the American Board of Surgery Complex General Surgical Oncology Specialty Board. He serves as an Associate Editor for BMC Surgery and on the Editorial Boards for JSR, Digestive Medicine Research, ACS Case Reviews in Surgery, and Annals of Surgical Oncology. He is a member of the Publications Committees of both the Association for Academic Surgery and the Society of Asian Academic Surgeons.

 

Ryan Thomas, MD

Dr. Thomas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He also serves as Chief of the Division of General Surgery at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System, and he is a fellow of the Society of Surgical Oncology. His academic interests include the clinical and biologic factors associated with several different cancers, including the role of the human microbiome in pancreatic cancer. Dr. Thomas has received extramural support for his research from the National Institutes of Health and the American Cancer Society. He serves on the Editorial Boards of JSR, Annals of Surgical Oncology, Neoplasia, and PLOS ONE. For the Association for Academic Surgery, he currently serves as a Councilor on the Executive Council and has served as a member of the Basic and Translational Research Committee, the Leadership Committee, and the Program Committee, as well as chair of the Membership Committee.
