Congratulations to the New Journal of Surgical Research Associate Editors

Associate Editor for Pediatric Surgery

We are pleased to announce that Colin Martin, MD, has been selected to serve as the new Associate Editor for the Pediatric Surgery section of JSR. Dr. Martin is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Martin has an extensive track record in basic science studying the environmental factors that lead to early intestinal immune development, with funding from NIH, the American Surgical Association, and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. Of note, he is a past recipient of the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS) Joel J. Roslyn Faculty Research Award. He has served JSR as a member of the editorial board for four years and has served the AAS as a member of the Leadership Committee, Publications Committee, Councilor, and Representative to the Society of Black Academic Surgeons. He currently serves as Director of the Developing a Career and Skills in Academic Surgery Course sponsored by the AAS and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Dr. Martin will be taking over the Pediatric Surgery section from Dr. Anne Fischer, who has completed her term after serving as Associate Editor for this section since 2015. We are truly indebted to Dr. Fischer for her dedicated service to JSR.

Associate Editor for Vascular Surgery

We are pleased to announce that Young Erben, MD, has been selected to serve as the new Associate Editor for the Vascular Surgery section of the Journal of Surgical Research (JSR); she will be joining our current Associate Editor for the Vascular Surgery section, Dr. Dawn Coleman. Dr. Erben is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic – Florida. She is an accomplished clinical investigator focused on outcomes in patients undergoing aortic and peripheral vascular operations, with expertise in gender disparities in vascular surgical care. Dr. Erben currently serves as an elected Councilor on the AAS Executive Council and as a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force in the Society for Vascular Surgery.

Associate Editor for Surgical Oncology

We are pleased to announce that Victor Zaydfudin, MD, MPH, has been selected to serve as the new Associate Editor for the  Surgical Oncology section of JSR; he will be joining our current Associate Editor for the Surgical Oncology section, Dr. Kazuaki Takabe, and our Associate Editors for the Gastrointestinal Surgery section, Drs. Amir Ghaferi, Jose Trevino, and James Yoo. Dr. Zaydfudin is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Virginia. He is an accomplished clinical investigator focused on outcomes in patients undergoing surgical treatment of gastric, liver, and hepatopancreaticobiliary cancers, with funding from NIH and American Cancer Society. He has served JSR as a member of the editorial board for three years and has served the AAS as a member of the Program Committee and Publications Committee.

Webmaster at Association for Academic Surgery
The Association for Academic Surgery was founded in 1967 and has grown significantly over the years being widely recognized as an inclusive surgical organization with over 2,500 member surgeons. Active members have traditionally held faculty appointments at a recognized academic center. Active membership is also available to senior/chief residents and fellows in approved training programs in general surgery and the surgical specialties. The impetus of the membership remains research-based academic surgery.
