How would you like your donation to be used?(Required)
The Geoffrey Dunn, MD Research Award in Surgical Palliative Care will provide investigators with the opportunity to pursue research interests, specifically germane to the field of surgical palliative care. Proposals may focus on symptom control in surgical patients, surgical decision-making, and communication among others as well as encompass any research approach (e.g., quantitative, quantitative, mixed methods, implementation science).
The Henri Ford Junior Faculty Research Award will provide research support for persons considered underrepresented in the academic surgical community. The scholarship aims to increase racial/ethnic diversity in the surgical research workforce by enhancing the path to independent funding.

Other ways to give

Estate Gift of Bequest

To start the donation process through a life insurance policy, the Donor should contact their life insurance company, a broker, or the Foundation office, which can recommend experienced brokers. The Donor will need to purchase a policy with the Association for Academic Surgery Foundation as the irrevocable beneficiary, and premium payments may be tax-deductible. It’s advisable for the Donor to update their will to reflect this designation and to send a copy of the policy to the Foundation office.

Honorarium Donation

When invited to speak, Donors can designate their honorarium to the AAS Foundation by emailing gina@aasfoundation.org. The Foundation will provide the necessary tax documents to the institution for processing. If every AAS Member contributes just one honorarium each year, it would significantly enhance funding for grants and awards at the Academic Surgical Congress.

Appreciated Stock Donation

There are various creative ways to support the AAS Foundation, including donating equity securities instead of cash. This option may offer significant tax benefits for the donor, but it is important to discuss the details and implications with a tax professional due to certain limitations and advantages.

Thank you for making a gift to ensure the advancement of surgical innovation and improved patient care.

If you have any questions, please contact the AAS Foundation Executive Director Gina Hardiman at (310) 437-1606 ext. 178 or via email at gina@aasfoundation.org.

The Association for Academic Surgery Foundation is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization. Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please consult your tax professional for details.

“Amongst all human societies, the history of medicine and the art of patient care have been passed down from healers/scientists/doctors to apprentices/disciples/students over and over again. The primary drive for nearly all advancements in medicine has been the curiosity and interest of individuals who seek to answer fundamental questions and to improve upon the current standards of care.”

Dr. Daniel A. Popowich

Northwestern University, 2006 AASF Research Fellowship Award Recipient
