AAS Member Spotlight for December 2020 – Lisa Kodadek, MD

December 1, 2020 by AAS Administrative Office

Each month, the AAS Membership Committee presents the “Membership Spotlight” – an opportunity to introduce you to a member of your association.

Article by Kelly Olino, MD, FACS

Dr. Lisa Kodakek is a fellowship trained trauma and acute care surgeon at the Yale School of Medicine where she serves as an assistant professor of surgery.  Dr. Kodadek attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin and went on to do her residency at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.  During her residency training she completed a post-doctoral research fellowship focused on patient centered approaches to collecting sexual orientation and gender identity information in the emergency department.  She then completed her surgical critical care and acute care surgery fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  She is known as a dedicated teacher and has been consistently recognized for her clinical excellence throughout her career.  She is active in many national societies where she has been integral in improving the responsible use of social media.

Dr. Kodadek has been involved with the AAS since her residency where she presented at multiple national meetings and was also awarded a grant from the AAS to perform work looking at predictors for successfully obtaining K award funding in surgery.  Her current research is focused on developing a systematic approach to clearly defining and establishing goals of care and developing methods to improve communication around complex shared decision in the geriatric population in the surgical intensive care unit.  She is looking forward to continued involvement with the society as a new faculty member and finding collaborators to move forward her academic mission.
