Dr. Anuoluwapo (Anu) Elegbede is an Assistant Professor at Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in Milwaukee. Dr. Elegbede joined the Division of Trauma/Acute Care Surgery (ACS) in 2018 and has been a member of the AAS since 2019. Born in Nigeria, Dr. Elegbede’s background is in Biochemistry, for which she attained a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2003 and a Master’s degree from the University of Nevada in 2007. It was in this same year that Dr. Elegbede matriculated into medical school at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. After earning her medical degree in 2011, Dr. Elegbede remained at the University of Wisconsin for General Surgery residency, finishing and becoming board certified in 2016. Dr. Elegbede then completed two fellowships at Indiana University, one in Surgical Critical Care and the other in Acute Care Surgery before joining the faculty at MCW.
Dr. Elegbede has achieved several prestigious awards over the course of her medical education, residency training, and career in Traumatology. This includes awards in student leadership, membership in the Gold Humanism Honor Society, and most recently being recognized with the Golden Cane Award at MCW. This latter award is given by the medical students to only one faculty each year who they have deemed Faculty Teacher of the Year. As such it is no surprise that Dr. Elegbede dedicates her time to medical student and resident education. She is an instructor of both the Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Trauma Operative Management courses, and additionally she serves as the Site Director of the MS-3 and MS-4 Trauma/ACS clerkships and the Director of the MS-4 Acting Intern and Electives Course. Nationally, Dr. Elegbede is a current member of the AAS Surgery Education Committee, beginning her role this year in 2020. She is interested in Geriatric trauma research as well as exploring successful mentorship of medical students in Surgery.
