AAS-SUS Basic/Translational Research Mentoring Program

This program has been made possible through the strong support of AAS, SUS, and the Surgical Biology Club.

Purpose: This highly competitive mentoring program offers a unique opportunity for junior faculty surgeon-scientists in Basic/Translational Research (BTR) to partner with mentors who are established senior BTR surgeon-scientists. The mentor will provide advice and support to the mentee in all aspects of their academic career, including career planning, development of specific aims, assistance with grant-writing and research design, participation in academic surgical societies, and networking at the national level. Mentors will include independently-funded basic and translational surgeon-scientists who are leaders in their field. The mentee will participate in 1-hour phone calls with the mentor every 2 months. Once in-person conferences resume, we encourage you to meet with your mentor at the ASC and/or the ACS annual meetings. Awardees of this highly competitive program will be announced and recognized at the 2021 Academic Surgical Congress.

Potential discussion topics for phone calls will include the following:

  • Departmental and institutional support
