Kristin L. Long, MD, MPH, FACS

Dr. Kristin L. Long is a fellowship-trained endocrine surgeon at the University of Wisconsin (UW) School of Medicine and Public Health with a special interest in Global Surgery. Dr. Long plays an essential role in the training of medical students, residents, and fellows at UW and serves as a key member of the medical school admissions committee. She completed her undergraduate degree cum laude in Chemistry at Southern Methodist University and earned her medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center before completing her residency in general surgery at the University of Kentucky. She then completed a fellowship in endocrine surgery at the renowned University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She also has a graduate certificate in Clinical and Translational Sciences from the University of Kentucky.

Since joining the faculty at UW, Dr. Long has obtained a Masters in Public Health degree with a focus on global health and been awarded a visiting professorship to the West African College of Surgeons by the Association of Academic Surgery (AAS) in 2019.  She also received the “Real. Strong. Women. Of Distinction” Award in 2019 from Alpha Chi Omega national sorority. Dr. Long is the Principal Investigator for a Doris Duke Charitable Foundation Award that supports the clinical research continuum and training of underrepresented high school and undergraduate students interested in clinical research. Dr. Long also leads multiple international global surgery outreach efforts and is closely aligned with Kenya Relief, an organization that strives to kindle hope for a new generation in Kenya by partnering between communities and uniting for a common good.  Their short-term missions provide expertise in general and endocrine surgery to patients in needs as well as educational efforts directed at local physicians. Dr. Long has been an AAS member since 2016 and is currently the Chair of the Global Affairs Committee.
