While a resident and fellow at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and now a junior faculty member at the University of Wisconsin, participating in Association for Academic Surgery events—including the AAS Courses as well as Academic Surgical Congress—was a key component of my development as a young surgeon scientist investigating frailty and resilience in surgical populations. In addition to my research activities, I have also maintained an interest in identifying unique ways to adapt new technologies to medical education and training, beginning with development of an educational wiki for my medical school class and now as a faculty member by implementing processes which facilitate operative video capture for resident education. As an AAS committee member my goal is to support the continued growth of the AAS, allowing it to provide the same invaluable opportunities to other medical students and residents seeking to become academic surgeons.
