Committee on Academic Advancement Self Nomination for Yihan Lin

October 30, 2018 by

Return to Nominations List

Yihan Lin, Candidate Member

Headshot (optional)
Specialty

General Surgery

Current Institution

University of Colorado

Statement
I am a surgery chief resident at the University of Colorado, and am committed to increasing surgical access in underserved populations. During my 2 research years, I was a Paul Farmer Global Surgery research fellow and spent the majority of my time living in Rwanda and Zambia, where I worked with the Ministry of Health to improve surgical capacity in rural district hospitals of these countries. I also worked at the World Health Organization in Geneva at Surgical Program (Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surgical Care), where I engaged in advocacy and policy initiatives in national surgical planning.
I would like to dedicate efforts within the AAS to increase the ability of members (residents, fellows, faculty) to engage in bilateral partnerships with institutions in underserved populations, be it in the US and in developing countries. This would include exposure and participation of our members to have clinical experiences as well as help build research capacities in these settings.
