Committee on Academic Advancement Self Nomination for Juan Santamaria

Return to Nominations List

Juan Santamaria, Active Member

Headshot (optional)
Specialty

Surgical Oncology

Current Institution

University of Nebraska Medical Center

Statement

I am a surgical oncologist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. I have special interest in cancer care and outcomes disparities among underserved minorities. Instead of describing these disparities further, my main motivation is action: I have secured institutional, foundational, and state funding for a Lay Breast Health Navigator Program in Omaha which will combat systemic barriers of breast cancer care to women of ethnic & racial minorities. Secondly, as a foreign Hispanic medical graduate and Chair-elect of the National Hispanic Medical Association Nebraska Chapter, I have established relationships with Hispanic healthcare leaders and health systems from different Latino countries.

I am grateful for the AAS mentorship over the years and I look forward into increasing my involvement with the association. I believe my background and past experiences position me very well to serve in the DEI or Global Affairs committee. Thank you for your consideration!
