Access to and progress in surgery should occur across political and socioeconomic boundaries. I am an affiliate of my institution’s Center for Global Health, a global surgery fellowship director, and a committee chair within the Association of Academic Global Surgeons. Our surgery department has hosted surgeons from several continents for specific learning goals and was planning to host an ACS travel award recipient in 2020. I have assisted surgeons in Africa and Asia and am involved in curriculum development for training programs in east Africa. This has given me experience and personal interest in all five Global Affairs Committee objectives.
