I am very excited for the opportunity to nominate myself for the Committee on Academic Advancement and/or the Basic Translational Science Committee. I have been an active member of AAS since 2010. During my membership, I have served on the executive council of AAS as a councilor. I have also served a member on the nominating committee and program committee.
I am currently an Associate Professor of Surgery and the Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program at the University of Arizona where I think our biggest success has been the change in culture to one of aspiration for excellence with a can-do Mentality. My clinical specialties are colorectal surgery, elective general surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, geriatric surgical oncology and laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery. My research focuses is on colorectal cancer with particular interest on early onset colorectal cancer and disparities in colorectal cancer. I have had multiple peer review publications and has been an invited speaker at several national and international meetings.
I believe that leadership is very dynamic and always evolving with changing times and every opportunity to learn from other leaders is always a welcome one. My ultimate goal is to be an inspirational leader; to be able to inspire people towards bigger and nobler goals at various levels, institutional, national and international. I would be honored to be considered for either one of these committees.
