The critical role of AAS in developing surgical investigators and educators- in the broadest definition- requires time, effort, volunteerism, and fiscal considerations. The Finance Committee assists in assuring and ensuring that the AAS can continue its critical role. Having served on 2 previous AAS committees, I seek to continue my involvement by serving on the Finance Committee. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Issues Committee and Basic/Translational Science Committee. Through these committees and others, the AAS develops surgical investigators and educators. I am in my third year on faculty as a Surgical Oncologist at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN. I have a basic science laboratory and recognize the value of the AAS and ASC for trainees and junior faculty. I offer experience interacting with industry, managing multiple diverse projects, and seeking the right balance of funding sources in order to keep the AAS functioning at its peak with room to grow in the future. It is with this in mind that I seek to be elected to the Finance Committee to offer my experience, knowledge, and skill set to help the AAS continue its work.
