Education Committee Self Nomination for Sophia McKinley

Return to Nominations List

Sophia McKinley, Candidate Member

Headshot (optional)
Specialty

Surgical Oncology

Current Institution

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Statement

I am a second-year surgical oncology fellow with a consistent interest in surgical education and surgical education research. The driving motivation of my educational scholarship is to make surgical training more patient- and learner-centered at both the UME and GME levels. As a surgical education simulation and research fellow, I implemented a variety of interventions at the UME level to optimize how students are introduced to surgery. Additionally, I have begun work to incorporate patient-derived evaluation into surgical resident assessment, a line of investigation funded by an AAS resident research grant. I would like to serve on the Education Committee to give back to the organization that has invested in my development as an education researcher and that has a strong history of welcoming surgical trainees into academic surgery.
