Committee Participation by Election:
Currently, participation on five of the AAS’ eight committees requires that members be elected by those who are present at the Annual Business Meeting (although a member does not need to be present to be elected). The following committees will be elected:
-
Education
-
Information Technology
-
Issues
- Leadership
-
Membership
Candidate members and active members are eligible for committee membership. To be elected to a committee, each member must complete a self-nomination form. A member may submit a self-nomination form to NO MORE THAN THREE COMMITTEES.
Format Requirements for Statement of Interest for Committee Member Positions:
1. Statements must be submitted in via the 2010 AAS Committee Self-Nomination Form webpage.
2. Statements cannot be longer than 100 words in length.
Committee Participation by Appointment:
The Program Committee members are appointed by the President of the AAS.
Only active members are eligible. Send your statement of interest and an abbreviated (4 page) C.V. to the AAS President.
Election to Councilor Position:
Currently, there are 10 councilors, one elected from among the members who joined in each of the past 10 years. The deadline for councilor nominations is January 23rd.
The councilor for the incoming new members (from 2008) is elected by mail ballot from three names selected by the Membership Committee. Interested NEW members should send a statement of interest and a picture to the Chairman of the Membership Committee.
Format Requirements for Statement of Interest for Councilor Positions:
1. Statements must be submitted in MS Word format or as a .pdf and be no longer than 1/2 page.
2. Name your statement as follows: YourNamePosition2008.doc or .pdf
3. Make sure that you include a record of previous service to the AAS and/or attendance at the annual meeting and courses.
Every other year, the group will elect the councilor from a group of names selected by the Nominating Committee. This year, the AAS will contact members in eligible years to solicit interest, and members will then be selected by the Nominating Committee from the respondents who indicate that they are willing to take on this responsibility. The election will occur in the spring.
Election to Officer Position:
Each year, election is held for the President-elect. Every other year, elections are held for the Secretary and the Recorder, each of which are two-year positions. Every third year, the Treasurer is elected. In 2009, the offices of Recorder and President-elect will be elected. Interested members can also contact current officers directly with any specific questions regarding the responsibilities of these positions.
Active members who would like to serve as an Officer should send a detailed C.V. plus a statement of interest to the AAS office, who will forward the necessary information to the Nominating Committee. While prior service in the AAS and/or demonstration of a commitment to the organization by meeting attendance is strongly considered in the selection criteria, they are not an absolute requirement.
Format Requirements for Statement of Interest for Officer Positions:
PLEASE NOTE: SELF-NOMINATION IS MANDATORY. THIS INDICATES THAT THE CANDIDATE IS ELIGIBLE FOR NOMINATION AND IS WILLING TO ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE OFFICE.
